Day or night, you will see them everywhere. Along the beach front, the roadside, the markets and at any major event. The Hawker stalls sell an incredible range of food from fruit to spicy salads. Some of the foods offered by such vendors are not available in standard restaurants or food outlets, and offer your only chance to sample some really unique tastes, and if Thai people can tuck in with gusto - why can’t everybody else?

By Adaeze Zheng
Just the phrase exotic fruits, has a certain sexiness to it. You can just picture some attractive person looking vibrant and young taking a big bit out of some juicy gorgeous looking piece of fruit. Those scenes conjure up visions of deserted beaches and hot sultry scenes. Phew…well enough about that! Let’s get into some specific fruits. One you may want to try is kind of obvious and that is passion fruit. Passion fruit is a favorite amongst health nuts and gourmets who like to show they know something about fruit. Passion fruit is soft and juicy and is a great source of anti oxidants.
It is often said that fruit is nature’s candy. And, although that may be true given the yumminess of fruit, the one thing fruit certainly has over candy is the health benefits. Indeed, you would be hard pressed not to find a fruit that has great health benefits and provides you with all the vitamins and minerals your body require to stay young and healthy. But, if you’re bored with the usual fare of fruit you may want to try some exotic fruits to spice up your diet and keep you young as well.
How about a kumquat? The word is funny but the fruit is delicious and is also very aesthetically pleasing. Kumquats look a little like small oranges and are derived from the citrus family. Like all things citrus Kumquats are an extremely good source of vitamins. Unlike an orange you can eat a Kumquat whole skin and all. Legend has it that Kumquats are a great source of fiber and have magical digestive properties. Another fun exotic fruit is the dragon fruit, besides its fiery name, you need not be afraid of this fruit in fact you will find this cactus family fruit to be a delicious source of anti oxidant properties and many minerals as well.
There are so many exotic fruits out there to try and all of them have some kind of health benefit and eating fruit is known to keep you young in body and spirit. Adding fruit to your diet regularly can really make significant differences in your health. Nature’s candy can be really good for you and is a great alternative to fattening sweets. Next time you have a hankering for a treat pick out an exotic fruit instead of a gooey chocolaty dessert. Bon appétit!
